GE-RSC Presentation Competition 2011 - Chemistry in Our Daily Life

18 November 2011 GE China Technology Centre (Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park)

During the International Year of Chemistry 2011 celebrations the Royal Society of Chemistry and GE China Technology Center are launching the Chemistry Presentation Competition. We would like to invite undergraduate students studying a chemistry-related subject to share your knowledge about chemistry and how it affects your daily life.

Format of the competition

Undergraduate students from chemistry and related departments are encouraged to enter. All participants are required to give a PowerPoint presentation in English explaining how chemistry impacts on their everyday life based on one of the following themes:

  • Chemistry and health
  • Chemistry and diet
  • Chemistry and environment
  • Chemistry and energy     

There will be two rounds to the competition

In the first round students will compete individually in their own schools. The top three winners from each school will then go forward to compete as a team in round two

The second round will take place on 18 November (Friday), 13:00 - 16:30 at the Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, where each team member will give a 15 minute presentation followed by five minutes of questions from the judges

Awards

All competitors in the second round will receive RSC certificate and gifts from organizers, and the winners will receive one of the following awards:

  • Gold Award: RSC certificate, Cup, Practice in GE and training in GE
  • Silver Award: RSC certificate, Cup, factory tour in GE and training in GE
  • Bronze Award: RSC certificate, Cup and training in GE
  • Commended Award: RSC certificate     

The GE China Technology Center (CTC): located at the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai, is a multidisciplinary research center conducting leading edge research, engineering development, and sourcing for GE’s diverse businesses across the world.

The competition is organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and GE China Technology Center as part of the International Year of Chemistry 2011 and the Science and Technology Festival of GE.
