Henry Wong
Professor Henry N.C. Wong obtained his B.Sc. degree (First Class Honours) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1973, and his Ph.D. degree from University College London in 1976. After that, he conducted research at Harvard University, University College London, and Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, The Chinese Academy of Sciences. He returned to The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1982, and is now Professor of Chemistry, Head of New Asia College and Chairman of the Research Committee.
Professor Wong’s research interests are concerned with chemistry of organosilicon, heterocyclic compounds, and syntheses of natural and non-natural molecules. He has published more than 200 research papers, invited reviews and book chapters. Professor Wong serves in a number of international and national journal editorial boards and is Chairman of the Management Committee, Shanghai-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory in Chemical Synthesis, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry. He is also honorary professor and guest professor of many tertiary institutions on the Chinese Mainland.
Professor Wong has received many awards including the Doctor of Science degree from the University of London in 1994, and National Natural Science Award (second-class category) in 1997. He is a Croucher Senior Research Fellow (1999 – 2000), Member of The Chinese Academy of Sciences (elected in 1999), and Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (elected in 2004).
