Student Bursaries for Conference Travel
Small grants (£250) are being offered by the RSC Manchester & District Local Section to Student Members or Younger Members (under 35) of the RSC who are studying, working, or domiciled within the area covered by the section. These are to support members in their career development through attendance at international conferences where members will be presenting a talk or poster.
Awards are intended to complement other sources of funding, and to act as leverage to secure such other funds.
A limited number of awards are available annually. Submit your application to Dr F S Mair as an e.mail attachment or as hardcopy by one of four deadlines:
- 5th October 2007
- 14th December 2007
- 14th March 2008
- 13th June 2008
Applications should be accompanied by a statement of support from the academic or industrial supervisor of the applicant, and should concern conferences in the period 1 November 2007 to 31 October 2008.
Awards will be made on the conditions that:
- a report on the conference is submitted to the next meeting of the Local Section
- their support is acknowledged in the talk/poster
- that certification of conference attendance is submitted alongside the report.
Decisions will be communicated within 3 weeks of receipt of applications and will depend upon the academic or professional standing of the conference and applicant; the relevance of the conference to the research project or professional duties of the applicant; and the case made as to professional development in the application and supporting statement.
