Welcome to the relatively small but very active Mid-Scotland Section of the RSC.
As the local university, Stirling, has no chemistry department the majority of our members are, or have been, employed within the industrial sector. There are, in addition, a few present-day and retired school teachers and college lecturers. The current committee, which meets at the Grangemouth premises of Ineos, reflects this mixture of industry and education.
As you can see from the 2016-2017 programme card the committee members have arranged a cocktail of social events, lectures and competitions. This includes an inaugural Learn Chemistry event for local chemistry teachers. This will be led by one of the RSC Education Coordinators.
As part of Chemistry Week 2016 the section plans to hold event(s) to promote Chemistry to the general public. We would welcome your ideas for a successful event.
On an evening of W/B 14 November Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus will host the Top of the Bench Competition. As this introduction is being put together three of the committee’s alchemists are engaged in setting up an enjoyable little challenge for the participating school teams.
The Best Western Park Hotel in Falkirk is the chosen venue for the quiz night [21 October], the wine tasting and evening meal with professor John Hepworth [5 May] and the AGM [21 April].
The committee attempts to present a varied and stimulating programme for the year. In this regard suggestions regarding speakers and / or areas of particular interest are most welcome.
I look forward to meeting you at this year’s events.
