New Younger Members Rep

Hi, my name is Mark Dennis and I am the Mid Scotland Younger Members Rep.
I first became interested in Chemistry while studying for my A-levels. This interest led me to the University of Wales Bangor, where I studied for my degree in Chemistry with industrial experience.
During this degree I was able to spend my third year working for a pharmaceutical company called Wyeth in a QC laboratory as a analytical chemist. This gave me a valuable insight into industrial chemistry in action and allowed be to obtain valuable skills.
It was during my degree that I joined the RSC after attending one of their membership events. On completion of my degree I decided to continue at the University of Wales Bangor and carry out my PhD in the field of Organic and Electrochemistry.
On completing my PhD I moved up to Falkirk to take up a post with Fujifilm Colorants in Grangemouth as a Process Development chemist. Here my role is to develop robust processes, which will allow the efficient manufacture of Azo dyes that are used in Inkjet printers. Through this role I am continuing to gain further experience.
Moving to Falkirk also gave me the opportunity to get involved in the Mid Scotland Section of the RSC and the many events they run such as Top of the Firm, Top of the Bench.
In my role as the Young Members Representative, I am looking to try and organise and introduce events that the Younger Members of the Section will find both entertaining and informative.
Ideas of events that you would like to see taking place would be appreciated and I will look to introduce them into this years programme.
