Professor Yong-Mook Kang is an associate professor, Department of Energy and Materials Engineering at Dongguk University in South Korea. After obtaining his doctoral degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 2004, he experienced a senior researcher in Samsung SDI Co., LTD and an external supervisor in University of Wollongong, Australia. Then, he spent 4 years as an assistant professor in Kongju National University and moved onto to Dongguk University to become an associate professor. He pioneered the employment of ab initio calculation to expect the chemical reaction and related phase transitions of anode materials like Si, Sn and so on for lithium rechargeable batteries. Most of his research results have been completed with the combination of simulation, materials synthesis, and their structural characterization coupled with the application to energy conversion & storage devices. To date, he has co-authored almost 100 refereed journal articles, over 70 international conference papers, several articles in books or proceedings, and a textbook of nano-science and electrochemical devices. For his research achievements in energy conversion & storage materials, he was elected as a TWAS(Academy of Science for Developing Worlds) Young Affiliate for the first time in South Korea, and awarded the International Collaboration Award of Australian Research Council-2010, World Premier Materials Technology Award of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea-2012.
