RSC - Advancing the Chemical Sciences

Chartered Scientist (CSci)

The Science Council awards the designation of Chartered Scientist (CSci). The RSC is licensed by the science council to award its members CSci.

CSci represents a single chartered mark for all scientists, recognising high levels of professionalism and competence in science. There are currently around 15,000 Chartered Scientists working in a vast array of settings and across all scientific and related sectors. By benchmarking professional scientists at the same high level, CSci aims to re-engage public trust and confidence in science and scientists.

There are two ways for RSC members to apply to CSci. Those newly awarded Chartered Chemist (CChem) are additionally awarded CSci upon request. Existing CChems, and appropriately qualified members who would like to apply to CSci without CChem, should register using the form below.

CSci Revalidation

The requirements for holding Chartered status include a commitment to continuing professional development, and maintaining CSci status is therefore subject to annual revalidation. In most cases this takes the form of a simple declaration as part of RSC membership renewal, but members may be asked to provide supporting information about continuing professional development as part of a random sampling exercise.
