A magazine providing a snapshot of the latest developments across the chemical sciences.
Want to know more?
Launched in January 2004, Chemical Science is rapidly establishing itself as an excellent news source for the latest research developments in the chemical sciences.
An article (Flipping lipids) highlighting the development of 'flipping lipids' - enzymes that initiate a flip-flop action in membrane lipids, which may provide potential advances in the search for chemotherapeutic agents - was featured in the February issue of Chemical Science, and later went on to be covered in Nature.
'To date I have published two papers in Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry and the process works great' says Brad Smith, professor of chemistry at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, US. 'The RSC is clearly working hard to promote the papers that appear in its journals.'
Clare Bostock-Smith, acting managing editor for Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry adds 'We have had a number of papers covered by mainstream and scientific media, and are excited by the opportunities that Chemical Science offers for highlighting research to the broader scientific community.'
The venture has been received with great enthusiasm, with visits to the online version exceeding expectations.

History repeats itself
Cryptands - molecular entities comprising cyclic or polycyclic assemblies of binding sites - are the topic of one of the most highly accessed articles, from the recently launched RSC Journals Archive. Published in J. Chem. Soc., Dalton Trans. in 1992 the article by Michael Drew et al., is clearly of relevance to those working in this active area of research today. February saw a staggering 12,000 archive papers accessed - an average of 35 papers per hour! To find out just how useful the archive can be, visit the RSC Journals Archive
Keeping you informed
Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in your specialist subject area can be a full-time occupation, with numerous journals publishing novel research from all over the world. To make this task easier, the RSC publishes a range of specialist current awareness journals in subject areas ranging from catalysis, and organic synthesis to analytical chemistry. Titles such as Analytical Abstracts, Catalysts & Catalysed Reactions, Methods in Organic Synthesis and Natural Product Updates are published monthly and provide rapid, cost-effective access to thousands of abstracts from hundreds of journals. An online version (for most current awareness products) also allows full text searching, using a variety of index terms.
