CrystEngCommunity
A virtual web community for crystal engineers, providing links to international research groups, conferences and events, and highlighting the latest research in the field.
Professor Gautam Desiraju
University of Hyderabad, India
Gautam R. Desiraju was born in Madras and received his B. Sc. at the University of Bombay in 1972. He was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976 and after two years spent in the laboratories of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York, he joined the faculty at the University of Hyderabad as Lecturer in 1979, being appointed Reader in 1984 and Professor in 1990.
His 1989 book on crystal engineering and 1995 review in Angewandte Chemie on supramolecular synthons redefined several aspects of the subject of crystal engineering, and in particular led to an emphasis on the study of hydrogen bonds and other intermolecular interactions.
Prof. Desiraju was one of the founder members of the CrystEngComm Editorial Board and has also served on the Editorial Advisory Board of ChemComm. He is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy, the National Academy of Sciences (India), the Third World Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has published around 275 research papers.
