Advanced Search Page
The Advanced search page is divided into 3 sections: the Search all fields section, the Index Terms section and the Bibliographic Data section. One or more of the search options on the search page may be used in a single search enquiry. If you enter text in more than one of the text entry boxes an implied logical AND connects the text in each of the text entry boxes when a search is performed. Further information is given in the help topic Searching Using Free Text.
The Search all fields section contains a text entry box, 2 drop-down lists for selection of the publication year(s) of the original item and 2 square check boxes. One check box is labelled Search all years which by default contains a tick unless you make a selection from the Publication year lists. The other check box is labelled Search latest monthly update only, and is switched off by default. Further information on using these options is provided in the help topics Searching Using Free Text and Restricting Search Results By Publication Year.
The Indexing Features section contains 3 text entry boxes to search chemical names, descriptors and section name. To the right of the Chemical Name text entry box is a square check box labelled use CAS Registry Number. This should be activated by clicking the mouse on the square check box before entering a CAS Registry Number in the Chemical Name text box. Information on searching index terms is given in the help topic Searching Indexing Features.
The Bibliographic Data section contains 5 text entry boxes to search Article title, Author name, Author affiliation, Journal title and ISSN. Information on searching Bibliographic Data is given in the help topic Searching Bibliographic Data.
To restrict search results by Language of original article or Type of document or Number of hits to be displayed use the 3 drop-down lists situated towards the bottom of the search page from which entries may be selected. Information on using these options is given in the help topic Restricting Search Results.
To perform a search, once you have entered your search criteria, click on either of the 2 button bars labelled Search. One Search button bar is situated to the right of the Search all fields text entry box, and the other is at the bottom of the search page. To clear the search page of your entries, click on either of the 2 button bars labelled Clear. One is situated to the right of the Search all fields text entry box, and the other is at the bottom of the search page. As search criteria from your previous search remain on the search page, it is recommended that you use the Clear facility on returning to the search page and before entering completely new criteria for a subsequent search. When returning to the Search page to modify your original search criteria, you may prefer to amend your previous entries rather than clear the search page using the Clear button.
