10th Anniversary Article: Nature and magnitude of aromatic stacking of nucleic acid bases
11 June 2008
The latest PCCP 10th Anniversary Article is a Perspective article that was published as part of a PCCP themed issue on 'Stacking Interactions'.
The article was written by Pavel Hobza, Jiri Sponer and Kevin Riley. Pavel Hobza, who also served as Guest Editor for the themed issue, is Distinguished Chair at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He is a member of the PCCP Advisory Board and has been a loyal supporter of the journal since it was launched: he has published at least one paper in every single one of PCCP's ten volumes!

'The relation between theory and experiment, rarely discussed in the literature, is explained in detail,' he added.
Hobza's article is one of 32 contributions on stacking interactions, covering both theoretical and experimental viewpoints, that make up the themed issue. Hobza explained that the non-covalent interactions of aromatic, pseudoaromatic or conjugated subunits are of key importance to the structure of biomacromolecules and other complex molecular systems. 'Stacking is one of the most important presentations of non-covalent interactions.'
