Energy & Environmental Science

A new journal linking all aspects of the chemical sciences relating to energy conversion and storage, alternative fuel technologies and environmental science.

Of the highest calibre

03 April 2009

Energy & Environmental Science Editor-in-Chief Professor Nathan Lewis (Caltech), has been recognised as number 17 on a list of the 100 people who are changing America - one above Al Gore.
Professor Nathan Lewis

The Rolling Stone magazine recently published a feature on the 100 top "Agents of Change" in the US. The list showed a mix of politicians (with President Obama as #1), people in industry (e.g. Bill Gates or Steve Jobs), a few assorted musicians, sports stars and some scientists.
Rolling Stone quoted 'Nobody knows more about the progress - and roadblocks - to making fuel from the photons that pour down on us every day. Lewis has become an indispensable voice.'
'The need for sustainable energy is the foremost issue affecting the world today, and Energy & Environmental Science is essential reading for scientists working in these rapidly-changing areas,' commented Philip Earis, Editor Energy & Environmental Science. 'We are proud to have one of the world's foremost agents of change as the Editor-in-Chief, driving forward the journal and ensuring it best meets the needs of the communities it serves.'
Professor Steven Koonin

The second exciting announcement followed almost in tandem: Energy & Environmental Science Editorial Board member Steve Koonin has been nominated by President Obama to take up the role of Undersecretary for Science at the Department of Environment (DOE). In this position Koonin will work closely with Energy Secretary Steven Chu, his former colleague at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
