The mass spectra and fragmentation patterns of silicon, germanium, and tin tetra-allyls, and tetramethyltin
M. Fishwick and M. G. H. Wallbridge
The fragmentation patterns of silicon, germanium, and tin tetra-allyls have been examined at 70 eV to determine the variation in behaviour over this group of elements. While the germanium and tin compounds follow the general path established for the corresponding alkyl and aryl compounds, the silicon derivative shows marked differences. The fragmentation of tetra-allyl silicon has been studied in detail by use of metastable transitions obtained in two different ways. The unique features in the spectrum induced by the presence of a Si–C bond are discussed.
