Cameron McLeod
Following a PhD programme at Imperial College, London (1973-77) under the supervision of Professor T.S. West, McLeod moved to National Institute for Environmental Science, Japan, and worked with leading spectroscopists at the time - K. Fuwa, H. Haraguchi, N. Furuta - on ultratrace analysis/ICP emission spectroscopy. On return to the UK (1980) front end sample presentation tools, particularly flow injection and laser ablation were evaluated for enhanced measurements in the environmental/biological/materials fields.Significant contributions by the research team include measurement/speciation of Cr, Au, U and Pu in environmental systems. The last decade has seen the development of new approaches to environmental monitoring based on elemental and isotopic analysis of tree bark. Spatially resolved measurement via laser ablation continues to be a fruitful area of research and current efforts concern the use of labelled antibodies for bioimaging applications in the medical field.
