Free online access to Metallomics
11 July 2008
Issue 1 of new journal Metallomics is scheduled for publication in January 2009. And, in a win-win situation for both authors and readers, all online content of the new journal will be available for free in the first two years.
During 2009 and 2010, the current issue of the journal will be freely available to everyone online, without the need for any registration. For access to previous issue content, RSC Publishing is using an approach that has proved highly successful for new journal Energy & Environmental Science, launched in July 2008. This model, which was adopted in response to feedback from scientists, librarians and other information specialists, allows free institutional access to content during 2009 and 2010 following a simple registration process. Access is managed by institution and IP address. It is envisaged that this access model will help both scientists and librarians/information specialists to fully evaluate the new journal, before they consider taking out a license or a subscription in 2011.
Metallomics: Integrated biometal science will be a peer-reviewed journal covering the research fields related to metals in biological systems and is expected to be the core publication for the emerging metallomics community. RSC Publishing is delighted that Joseph A. Caruso, director of University of Cincinnati/Agilent Technologies Metallomics Center of the Americas and a leading player in this emerging field, will chair the Editorial Board of this timely new journal.
RSC Publishing's Editorial Director, John Haynes, said: " RSC is delighted to launch this new journal in response to feedback from the community." He went on to comment that authors will also benefit from publishing in the journal from day one because the access model is designed to maximise ease of use and global visibility in the journal's early days.
