Chris Schofield presents the 2005 NPR Lecture Award
23 May 2006
2005 NPR lecture award winner, Chris Schofield, gave his award presentation as a speaker at the 40th European Symposium on Bio-Organic Chemistry (ESBOC), Gregynog, UK last weekend.
Schofield, University of Oxford, UK, gave a lively talk entitled 'studies on the molecular mechanism of the hypoxic response'. The topic was chosen for the ESBOC audience, he says, 'to describe a project that had been enabled by natural product chemistry'.

The 2005 prize was awarded to Schofield in recognition of his high-profile work in the field of natural products chemistry and his work with the journal. Schofield and his team focus on research projects that show interesting chemistry and are of medicinal relevance.
When talking to NPR's deputy editor, Richard Kelly, at the symposium Schofield commented that he was 'very pleased and honoured to receive the award as it comes from a group of people who are not only excellent scientists but have done so much to promote natural products chemistry in the community'.
The NPR Lecture Award sponsors a lecture each year at an international meeting. The recipient is chosen from public nominations to acknowledge someone who has made a significant research contribution to natural products chemistry and has either published in or had some affiliation with the journal.
