In Issue 6, 2006 of NPR
23 November 2006
Issue 6 includes a review by Claus Jacob on natural sulfur compounds such as thiols, thiosulfinates and polysulfides. These compounds exhibit a complex redox-chemistry which forms the basis for a wide range of interesting antibiotic activities. This review is featured on the cover of the issue, which shows some edible sources of these natural products.

Issue 6 also features a Highlight article by Zoe C. Symons and Neil C. Bruce on bacterial enzymes capable of transforming anthropogenic and naturally occurring nitroaromatic compounds, a property that can be harnessed for use in medical, industrial and bioremediation applications. Highlight articles, a new development in NPR for 2006, are generally short articles reviewing recent work and bringing into focus topics of both general and specialist interest. These concise works will also cover emerging areas within natural products chemistry. Highlights were launched in response to the need of the scientific community for up-to-the-minute information on the latest research.
