New journal announcement: Metallomics

12 June 2008

Metallomics, a new journal from RSC Publishing, will be launched in January 2009. The announcement was made today at the International Forum of Proteins meeting on Health, Food and Environment by Joseph A. Caruso, who will chair the Editorial Board of the new journal.

Metallomics cover
The emerging scientific field of metallomics is receiving great attention as a new frontier in the investigation of trace elements in biology. It is expected that the subject will be developed as an interdisciplinary science complementary to genomics and proteomics.
"We have a lot to learn from looking into the areas of metabolomics and proteomics; metallomics will be a complementary area, an essential part of the puzzle that will be required at some point, so we have to be ready."
- Spiros Pergantis, University of Crete, Greece and JAAS Advisory Board

MetallomicsIntegrated biometal science will be a peer-reviewed journal covering the research fields related to metals in biological systems and is expected to be the core publication for the emerging metallomics community. In responding to the need for a dedicated subject journal, RSC Publishing anticipates that Metallomics will be a key voice and presence within the community, helping to support and shape its identity as it evolves. RSC Publishing is delighted that Caruso, director of University of Cincinnati/Agilent Technologies Metallomics Center of the Americas and a leading player in this emerging field, will be so closely involved with the team helping to mould the development of its timely new journal.

Metallomics will publish six issues in the first year, increasing to 12 issues in 2010. The journal will contain a full mix of research articles including Communications, Reviews, Full papers, and Editorials. From launch, the latest issue of Metallomics will be made freely available to all readers via the website. Free institutional access to all 2009 and 2010 content will be available following a simple registration process.

And there's more

Today's announcement came in tandem with news of a second new journal. Integrative Biology will also publish its first issue in January 2009 and aims to provide a unique venue for quantitative approaches and enabling technologies that lead to a greater understanding of biological processes and mechanisms.

With these latest expansions to the RSC Publishing journal portfolio, and Energy & Environmental Science  - new for 2008 - set to publish its first issue next month, RSC Publishing continues to reinforce its position as a world-class scientific publisher.
