Richard was born and grew up in Liverpool. He stayed at the University of Liverpool for both his BSc and PhD, the latter specialising in structure and catalytic properties of lanthanide complexes with Helen Aspinall. Richard started working at the RSC in September 2004 as an Assistant Editor for PCCP. He is now Editor of Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry and Natural Product Reports, and Managing Editor of MedChemComm and Toxicology Research. Outside of work, Richard likes to travel, particularly to the US.
