Mike grew up in Oxted in Surrey. After completing a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry at the University of Southampton in 2002, he spent one year working for Coopervision UK Ltd near Portsmouth. To further his education, he then studied for a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Southampton. His research included the synthesis, coordination and organometallic chemistry of organoantimony ligands, with particular interest in future applications in catalysis. After working for a year for Veolia Environmental Services as an Industrial Chemist, he joined the RSC in 2007 as an Assistant Editor on Chemical Communications. In his spare time Mike enjoys sports and is a member of the British Mini Owners club.
