Helma Wennemers

Helma Wennemers studied chemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt and obtained her PhD from Columbia University (New York) in 1996. Following postdoctoral studies at Nagoya University she started at the University of Basel as assistant professor where she was promoted to associate professor in 2003. She was awarded Kekulé and Liebig fellowships from the "Fonds der Chemischen Industrie", was the Goering visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 2004 and is holding the Bachem endowed professorship at the University of Basel.
Her research focuses on utilizing the large structural and functional diversity of peptides for the development of asymmetric catalysts, supramolecular assemblies and the controlled growth of metal nanoparticles. To address these challenges, combinatorial screening methods serve as important tools for the identification and further development of catalysts and as well as templates for the formation of metal nanoparticles.
