The latest citation data released by ISI has revealed that JEM's impact factor is now 1.99, which is an impressive 26% rise over 3 years.

JEM has grown considerably in the last 5 years and this latest impact factor marks the beginning of a new phase in the development of JEM. We will be further developing the scope and content of the journal to increase quality and impact of the papers we publish that report on environmental impacts and understanding of environmental processes along with appreciating the implications of new technologies, climate change, sustainability, industrial development and economics. Watch out for JEM's 100th issue (October 2009) which will set out our development plans for the journal.

JEM publishes a mix of Full Articles, Communications, Technical Notes, and Perspectives covering of all aspects of cutting-edge research environmental processes and impacts. The new impact factor (IF) is an excellent result for the journal and is a clear indication that more researchers than ever before are recognising JEM as a key resource for significant environmental research.

The impact factor is a measure of the number of times an "average article" in a journal has been cited in the previous two years. Therefore, this 2008 IF is based on 2008 citations to papers published in 2006 and 2007.

All the RSC and JEM editorial staff would like to send a big thank-you to all our authors, referees and readers for their continued support for the journal and in helping us to achieve this impressive result.
