Mina Bissell from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, reviews human mammary progenitor cell fate decisions, while Douglas Kell (Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology at the University of Manchester) reports on the analysis of aptamer binding sequence-activity relationships using micro-arrays. An article on genome-wide transcriptome analysis of 150 cells samples from Mehmet Toner at Harvard Medical School makes up just a part of the initial release of articles. "I am convinced that finally the time is right to launch a truly unique and multidisciplinary journal..."
- Dr Mina Bissell
News of the journal's launch has been enthusiastically welcomed by the community. Mina Bissell, chair of the editorial board commented: "I am convinced that finally the time is right to launch a truly unique and multidisciplinary journal that strives to introduce novel technologies - not for their own sake - but to answer important and significant questions in biology."

The first issue gives an indication of the quality of content we are expecting to publish, based on the three basic assessment criteria for this journal - Insight, Innovation & Integration.
