New Journal of Chemistry

New Journal of Chemistry.... the home of new and emerging multidisciplinary work in the chemical sciences.

NJC Cover Gallery 2006

Eye-catching cover images are created by authors of NJC articles, in collaboration with the NJC design team. The pictures adorn the covers of the print journal, feature in the online contents list and in the online cover gallery. Authors who wish to have their artwork featured on a journal cover should contact the Editor for further information.

A well-defined silica supported Re-alkylidene complex shows an unprecedented activity in olefin metathesis compared to homogeneous analogues. DFT periodic calculations show that its structure and electronic properties derive solely from the siloxy group to which Re is attached to silica, hence silica is a large siloxy (solid) ligand.

The cover exhibits the HPLC chromatogram and molecular structure of four isomers of non-peripheral substituted nickel (II) phthalocyanine. It is found out that non-peripheral substituted phthalocyanine isomers D2hC2v and Cs are liquid at room temperature whereas, C4h isomer exhibits liquid-crystalline properties at the same temperature. The background shows the polarized microscope picture of this isomer.
