The Soft Matter Award is an annual award which honours a younger scientist (typically within 15 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree) who has made a significant contribution to the soft matter field.
Zaccarelli obtained her 'Laurea' in Physics from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' in 1999 and her PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University College of Dublin, Ireland in 2002. She returned to Rome as a junior Postdoc, later to become Researcher at Italian National Research Council (CNR) in 2004 and she currently works within the SOFT-INFM research centre.
Zaccarelli has held the status of regular visiting scientist at the University of Dusseldorf since 2003. She is currently a principal investigator of the EU funded ITN-COMPLOIDS. Her theoretical and numerical expertise covers thermodynamics and dynamics of soft materials, with a particular focus on colloidal gelation and glass formation.
As part of the Award Zaccarelli will present an award lecture three times, one of which will be located in her home country of Italy. Details of these will be announced in due course. She will also be asked contribute a lead article to Soft Matter.
On behalf of the soft matter community, we would like to congratulate Emanuela Zaccarelli and wish her great success in her future career.
