Soft Matter - still number one!
22 June 2009
2008 has been another great year for Soft Matter, as hot off the press citation data from ISI® shows. Soft Matter remains the top journal in the field with a new impact factor of 4.59, and an immediacy index of 0.83, up from last years value of 0.78.
This shows that Soft Matter, now in its fifth year of publication, continues to appeal to a wide variety of researchers looking for a high impact journal for fundamental soft matter research. Soft Matter is still the platform where biologists, colloid scientists, physicists, polymer scientists, chemical engineers, chemists, and materials scientists can present work for interdisciplinary inspiration.

Impact factor is a measure of the number of times an "average article" in Soft Matter has been cited in a particular year. The impact factor for 2008 is calculated from the total number of citations to Soft Matter articles in 2008 to articles published in 06/07, divided by the number of articles published in that year.
The immediacy index is a useful measure of how topical and urgent the papers published by a journal are. It is calculated by dividing the number of citations to articles published in a given year by the number of articles published in that year.

Remaining the top journal in the field is a fantastic achievement and we would like to thank all of our authors, referees and readers.
