The Experimental Data Checker (EDC) Application is Copyright © 2003 - Unilever Cambridge Centre for Molecular Informatics and the Royal Society of Chemistry. By downloading the application, you signify you have read and accepted the terms of the license.

The application is ~2MB, so will probably take 6-8 minutes to download over a modem.

Installation

To use the EDC Application you must have Java v1.4 or higher installed on your system. If necessary, use the link below to download the latest version.

To install the application, download the file below and save it to your disk, and then double click on it to run the application. If the application does not start, check that you have Java v1.4 or higher correctly installed.

Troubleshooting

Q: How do I analyse a large file?

A: A large file can be cut and pasted into the applet or application, but sometimes the programs may freeze if a large amount of text is pasted in one go. The document could be cut and pasted in several sections. Alternatively, the document could be converted to a text only file (From the File menu of Word, select Save As and specify a new file name and text-only format). A text file can be read directly in to the application - select Open from the File menu of the application.

Q: Why won't the applet/application parse my data?

A: The programs can parse a wide variety of formats, but cannot cope with all possible ways of presenting data. If your data looks as if it is in a standard format, it may be that it contains a character that the programs cannot understand. Greek letters, for example, can be represented in many different ways. Usually, these can be analysed, but there are occasional exceptions. If this appears to be a problem, it may be solved by saving the data as a text-only file, and then cutting and pasting it again.

Q: How do I print out the analysis?

A: It is not possible to print at the moment.
