If PDF output from KaleidaGraph proves unsatisfactory, then save in TIF format. To make sure your image is saved in an RSC-compatible format, perform the following steps:
- Once the illustration is finalised, print your image out as a final size and quality check.
- From the "File" menu select "Export...", and then "TIFF".
- In the "Set Graphic Size" dialogue box that appears, select "Same as Plot Window", set the units to "cm" and "Scale Result by:" to "833%", as shown below. Click "OK".

- In the "Save Graph as" dialogue box, enter a meaningful file name (e.g. figure1.tif) and location, then click "Save".

- The file produced by steps 1 to 3 is large (~70 cm wide) and low resolution (72 pixels/inch). It can be used as it is, but if you have access to a graphics package such as Adobe Photoshop you can tidy up the format. You should:
- Alter the image "mode" from "Indexed Color" to either "Grayscale" (for non-coloured images) or "RGB Color" (for coloured images).
- In the "Image Size" function, change the "Resolution" to "600 pixels/inch" with the "Resample" option "off" (i.e. the number of pixels in the image will remain constant, and the image size will be reduced in proportion to the increase in resolution).
- Use "Save As..." to resave the image with "LZW compression" selected.
