X-Ray Crystallography
Guidelines for Publication of X-Ray Crystallographic Data
2.0 - Presentation of data in the manuscript
3.0 - Supplementary material required for assessment and/or deposition
4.0 - Reference to previous communications and unpublished work
1.0 General policy
The guidelines presented here apply to submission to any RSC journal. Authors should submit their work in CIF (Crystallographic Information File) format as it will facilitate the rapid processing of their manuscript. Details of specific RSC requirements can be found in the section dedicated to the CIF data format in the 'Acceptable Formats' section of the RSC web site.
In addition, authors should provide the checkcif report for their submitted CIFs. The checkcif reports are available via the International Union of Crystallography's free checkcif service. Any 'level A' alerts in the report should be explained in the submission details for the article.
Authors are also encouraged to take advantage of the free Electronic Supplementary Information (ESI) service to enhance their articles by providing 3D figures that can be viewed and manipulated on-screen using the browser plug-in Chime. Examples of these can be found in specially enhanced issues of Dalton Transactions (issues 19-24, 1999).
The Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) has a freely available programme (enCIFer) which allows users to add RSC required information to CIF files via a user-friendly graphical interface and can be used to provide a CIF in a suitable format for the IUCr's checkcif service.
If you have any further queries concerning the submission of crystallographic material to RSC journals, please contact the Editorial Office for the relevant journal.
