Innovation Awards 2003


Congratulations to the winners of the 2003 RSC Industry and Technology Forum Encouraging Innovation Awards. 

  • Chemistry Entrepreneur of the Year - Dr Eric Mayes, NanoMagnetics Ltd.
  • Creativity in Industry - Dr John Crosby, AstraZeneca   

Awards of £4000 were presented at a dinner in Burlington House hosted by RSC President Elect, Dr Simon Campbell and ITF President, Dr David Bott. We were delighted to welcome Patrick McDonald, DTI Director of Key Business Technologies as our guest presenter.

Dr Eric Mayes from NanoMagnetics was named the 2003 Chemistry Entrepreneur of the Year for the design and license of nanoscale magnetic particles for data storage on tape and disc. Dr John Crosby, recently retired from AstraZeneca was nominated by colleague Dr Andy Jones for the Creativity in Industry Award, honouring his outstanding lifetime contribution to innovation in chemical science. Dr Crosby worked for 35 years at AstraZeneca demonstrating innovation in all areas specifically including insecticides and biocatalysis.
