Innovation Awards 2005


The winners of the RSC Innovation Awards 2005 were announced on the evening of the 6th April at Burlington House in front of an audience of senior industrialists and entrepreneurs. 

Paul Chalker, David Prest, Matthew Baker, Katie McKenzie, Simon Campbell, John Roberts, Nigel Corns, Steve Partington, Mark Heron, Helen Parry and Ian Shott.

The numbers and quality of the awards this year have surpassed expectations with applications received from both small and large companies covering a wide breadth of the chemical sciences.  Due to low numbers of applicants Creativity in Industry was not awarded.

The winners for 2005 are:


Chemistry World Entrepreneur of the Year - Matthew Baker


DNA Research Innovations Ltd (DRI Ltd) was founded by Matthew Baker back in June 1998.  The UK launch of their novel methods for extracting DNA and RNA proved to be so successful that DRI was  acquired by the world's largest life science research company  - Invitrogen and now have their products distributed on a world wide scale.

Teamwork in Innovation - Excelsyn Limited


The deserved winner of the Chemistry World Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2006 was Ian Shott built up his business, Excelsyn, by buying struggling companies and injecting them with a new lease of life.
