Theophilus Redwood Lectureship 2008-09 Winner

University of Bath, UK
Distinguished for his research on both fundamental and applied aspects of electrochemistry, particularly involving liquid-liquid and energy modified electrochemical processes.
Frank Marken delivered this lecture at the Analytical Division Award Symposium in Manchester on 18 May 2009.
About the Winner
Frank Marken has in September 2004 been appointed to a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Bath.
General research interests are centred around the fundamental mechanistic understanding of interfacial processes and the development of novel electrochemical technologies based on nano-structures, three phase junctions, bio-electrochemical systems, ultrasound and microwave-enhanced processes, paired and self-supported electro-organic syntheses, and analytically relevant electrode reactions.
The research is supported by strong national and international collaborations, for example within the EU COST Action working group D32/005/04 "Microwave and Ultrasound Activation in Chemical Analysis".
Frank Marken studied Chemistry at the RWTH Aachen and at Bristol University. A Dr. rer. nat. degree (obtained in 1992) was followed by a period of postdoctoral research with Prof. A.M. Bond in Melbourne (Australia) supported by the Alexander-von-Humboldt foundation and with Prof. R.G. Compton (Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, Oxford) supported by the Royal Society.
Frank held a Stipendiary Lectureship at New College, Oxford, and from 1996 to 2004, he held a Royal Society University Research fellowship at Oxford and Loughborough University.
