About the winner
Lyn Jones received his undergraduate education at the University of Bath (graduating in 1995) that included an industrial trainee year at Sandoz Pharma, Basel, Switzerland creating semi-synthetic rapamycin analogues. In 1995 he initiated PhD studies with Professor Alan Armstrong at the University of Nottingham where he developed an efficient route to a model system of zaragozic acid, before applying this to a successful total synthesis of the natural product.
In 1999 he started his post doctorate studies with Professor Kim D. Janda at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California where he developed several novel approaches within the catalytic antibody area, and also discovered the ability of all antibodies to catalytically oxidise water to hydrogen peroxide. In January 2000, he joined Pfizer in Sandwich, UK and is currently an Associate Research Fellow.
He has wide-ranging research interests including the use of structure, kinetics and thermodynamics in drug design, and the advancement of the areas of chemical biology and biotherapeutics through the application of medicinal chemistry expertise.
