RSC Prize in Analytical Chemistry Rules
The Royal Society of Chemistry Prize in Analytical Chemistry is offered to Universities, Colleges and Institutions of Higher education to encourage interest among young people in Analytical Chemistry / Science, and also to stimulate higher education to give due regard to the study of Analytical Chemistry / Science. The following are the Rules:
- An annual prize, known as the Royal Society of Chemistry Prize in Analytical Chemistry, is offered to those individual higher education institutions with undergraduate degree schemes (BSc, MChem or MSci) in which Analytical Chemistry / Science is a significant, designated part of the curriculum. (See Rule 3).
- For the avoidance of doubt there shall be one prize per institution per annum, irrespective of the number of courses qualifying.
- Qualifying institutions shall have one or more degree schemes where the designated hours in Analytical Chemistry / Science amount to at least 100 contact hours (including lectures, tutorials and laboratory practicals, but excluding project work) overall in all years of the course.
- The prize at each qualifying institution shall be awarded for the best performance in Analytical Chemistry / Science in an approved course in respect of studies in the penultimate academic year of an undergraduate course.
- The value of each prize shall be £150. If the prizewinner is not already a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry the cost of one year's Affiliate Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry will be met by the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund.
- Nominees for the prize who are not already members of the RSC shall complete application forms for Affiliate Membership. The completed form (without payment) must be returned to the address below, concurrently with the e-mailed student nomination form.
- The £150 prize shall be paid to each nominated prizewinner immediately Affiliate Membership has been established and / or completed.
- The Head of the Department or School concerned of the respective institutions of higher education shall satisfy the Trustees of the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund of the Royal Society of Chemistry that the degree scheme(s) include at least minimum tuition in Analytical Chemistry / Science denoted above.
- The Head of the Department or School of the institution concerned shall nominate the prizewinner on an e-mailed nomination form and advise the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund's Trust Secretary of the nominee and the degree scheme of which the nominee is a member.
- The cheque for £150 shall be made out to the prizewinner and sent to the Head of the Department or School for handing to the prizewinner.
- A list of prizewinners will be presented to the Trust Advisory Committee and to Trustees and will also be published in the AD News.
- The decision of the Trustees is final.
