Robert Boyle Medal Rules
- The award of the Robert Boyle Medal in Analytical Chemistry will normally be considered biennially by the Honours Committee, which will make a recommendation to the Analytical Division Council of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
- Members of the Honours Committee shall not be eligible for any of the awards within its remit during their period of service.
- The award will consist of a Gold Medal and Certificate and will normally be presented at a scientific meeting of the Analytical Division.
- Candidates should normally be resident outside the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland and the major part of the work cited for the award should have been done outside the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. There is no restriction on nationality. Candidates do not need to be members of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
- The aim of the award is to enhance the prestige of analytical science, particularly in the regard of scientists in other disciplines. This aim may best be fulfilled by making the award to a person who has made outstanding contributions in the analytical sciences.
- Details of the award shall be published in RSC News and elsewhere.
- The merits of a particular candidate may be brought to the notice of the Honours Committee by means of a nomination sent to the RSC Analytical Division. The nomination should be accompanied by a supporting statement describing fully the outstanding contributions made by the candidate, biographical details, including a list of publications where possible, and the details of two referees.
- The award shall be made on an overall assessment of the candidate's original contributions to analytical science, principally through research, but also noting education, consultancy and service to the profession. Consideration will be given to the full impact of the candidate's work, which must have been recognised internationally.
- The Honours Committee shall be at liberty to request additional information.
- An award shall not be made if it is considered that the attainments of no candidate reach the required standard.
- The decision of the Council of the Analytical Division shall be final.
- Any alteration to these Rules shall be subject to the approval of the Council of the Analytical Division and the RSC Awards Committee.
