Ronald Belcher Memorial Lectureship Rules
The award of the Ronald Belcher Memorial Lectureship will normally be considered by the Honours Committee, which will make a recommendation to the Analytical Division Council of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
The award will consist of a certificate and a monetary prize of £250. The winner will be expected to present his or her work normally at the Analytical Research Forum meeting of the Analytical Division.
Candidates must currently be registered post-graduate students of a higher educational establishment within the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland and will normally be members of the RSC.
The aim of the award is to commemorate the memory of the late Professor Belcher, as a teacher, by encouraging students to make a positive contribution to, and to take an active part in, the profession of analytical chemistry.
Details of the award shall be published in RSC News and elsewhere.
The merits of a particular candidate may be brought to the notice of the Honours Committee by any supervisor of post graduate students registered with a higher educational establishment within the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland who desires to recommend the candidate, by means of a nomination sent to the RSC Analytical Division. The nomination shall be accompanied by a paper (or manuscript ready for submission for publication) of which the student is a principal co author.
The award shall be based on an overall assessment of the originality of the work described in the paper and the significance of its contribution to analytical chemistry.
The Honours Committee shall be at liberty to request additional information.
An award shall not be made if it is considered that none of the papers submitted reaches the required standard.
The decision of the Council of the Analytical Division shall be final.
Any alteration to these Rules shall be subject to the approval of the Council of the Analytical Division and the RSC Awards Committee.
