SAC Silver Medal Rules

1. The award of the Silver Medal will normally be considered annually by the Honours Committee, which will make a recommendation to the Analytical Division Council of the Royal Society of Chemistry. 
2. Members of the Honours Committee shall not be eligible for any of the awards within its remit during their period of service. 
3. The award will consist of a Silver Medal and Certificate and a monetary prize of £500. The winner will be invited to give a lecture at the Analytical Research Forum meeting of the Analytical Division.  
4. Candidates must be subjects of the United Kingdom or citizens of the Republic of Ireland, and be 35 years of age or under at January 1st in the year in which the award is made. Evidence of age will be required.  
5. Details of the award shall be published annually in RSC News and elsewhere. 
6. The merits of a particular candidate may be brought to the notice of the Honours Committee by means of a nomination sent to the RSC Analytical Division. The nomination should be accompanied by a supporting statement on the candidate's career, a curriculum vitae and details of two referees. Reprints of the FIVE publications considered most significant to the award should be submitted together with a clear indication of the significant contribution made by the candidate to these publications. 
7. The award shall be made on an over all assessment of the candidate's contribution, the impact of his/her work and his/her future promise in any field covered by the principles, teaching and practice of the analytical sciences. 
8. The Honours Committee shall be at liberty to request additional information. 
9. An award shall not be made if it is considered that the attainments of no candidate reach the required standard. 
10. The decision of the Council of the Analytical Division shall be final. 
11. Any alteration to these Rules shall be subject to the approval of the Council of the Analytical Division and the RSC Awards Committee.
