RSC policy Bulletin Issue 10

October 2008

Professor Dame Julia Higgins FRS, Former Chair of Athena Advisory Committee, introduces the latest issue of the Policy Bulletin highlighting the importance of good practice in university science departments. Work by the RSC has found that by promoting good practice, science departments can improve the recruitment and retention of women.

This issue also includes a discussion on the career intensions of chemistry PhD graduates compared with those studying molecular biosciences; the skills needed by employers to ensure a sustainable science base in the UK; the importance of injecting new ideas to stimulate research into tissue engineering; and the public debate surrounding Synthetic Biology.

Hard copies of the Policy Bulletin can be provided upon request by contacting Sarah Dickinson.
