Professor Colin Harrison, Chairman of Chemistry Innovation introduces this issue of the RSC Policy Bulletin by highlighting the diverse roles that Government Department , Research Councils, Knowledge Transfer Networks and the Royal Society of Chemistry have to play in order to maintain the UK as an excellent place to carry out both business and science. Inside is the first article on the RSC's study of the Chemical Science Small Business Sector in the UK and the RSC's response to the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council consultation on Knowledge Transfer.
Also discussed in this issue are the effects of carbon dioxide emissions on the world's oceans, how scientists can use harness sunlight as a renewable energy source, the RSC response to the Government's climate change bill and recent RSC policy in energy and education.
