Inclusion and diversity is the principle of equality of opportunity for all, giving every individual the chance to achieve their potential, free from prejudice and discrimination.
The Diversity Community Hub is an online resource that provides knowledge, evidence and tools to empower people to increase diversity and inclusion in their own organisations. This will include reports, statistics and practical advice on how to make positive change in our community.
The Royal Society of Chemistry is committed to increasing all types of diversity. An area that is of particular current concern for our community is women’s progression in the chemical sciences.
The current aims for the Diversity Community Hub are:
- To be an advocate for a more diverse and inclusive chemical sciences community.
- To increase participation and retention of women in the chemical sciences.
- To promote and recognise the professional accomplishments of women in the chemical sciences.
- To enable sharing of knowledge and opportunities to create a more inclusive and confident community that empowers women in leadership positions.
These aims will change as progress is made and we will widen our scope to other protected characteristics. It is worth noting that any intervention that promotes equality for one disadvantaged group has knock on effects that aid other disadvantaged groups.
