Belgian speciality chemicals company Solvay is to invest €10 million (£8 million) to double its production capacity for fluorinated aliphatic derivatives. Such compounds are used for energy storage (batteries for electric vehicles), electronics (liquid crystal displays) and pharmaceuticals.
The investment will be made at the plant in Salindres, France, which makes triflic acid, triflic anhydride and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide. The site became part of Solvay through the €3.4 billion acquisition of Rhodia in 2010.
