Nanotech project goes live on the internet
Scientists involved in an EU-funded research project, nano2hybrids, have launched a website that will post weekly video updates of their progress in the laboratory. The site allows visitors to post comments and questions on scientists' video diaries.
Researchers can also post video footage of their experiments on sites such as the Journal of Visualised Experiments, or JoVE, and SciVee.
Gold mine chosen for underground lab
A $500 million underground laboratory may be built in an abandoned gold mine in South Dakota, after the US National Science Foundation chose the site above several rivals. If all goes to plan, the Deep Underground Science and Engineering laboratory will be used to study exotic physics, geology and microbiology over 2000 metres below the Earth's surface.
Third time lucky for green chemistry bill?
For the third time, the US Green Chemistry Research & Development Act, which promotes recognition of a US green chemistry program, has been passed by the House Committee of Science and Technology. In 2004 and 2006, similar bills were blocked by Senate.
