- The European Commission's first FP7 calls have been announced, with highlights including: renewable energy; nanosciences; and material sciences. Download submission and eligibility information from web site.
- The RSC is inviting applications for its journals grants worth up to £2,000, allowing international authors to collaborate and share expertise. The JWT Jones fellowship scheme is also open for applications to enable researchers to carry out studies in scientific centres abroad, and to learn techniques not accessible to them in their own country. Awards last up to three months and are worth up to £5,000. The deadline for both grants is 1 April, 2007.
- The Biochemistry Society is inviting applications for the Krebs memorial scholarship to help candidates who wish to study for a PhD in biochemistry or allied biomedical science who do not qualify for public funds.
- The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain invites applications for its academic excellence awards aiming to help pharmacists and pharmacy graduates undertake PhDs:
- The British Association for cancer research invites applications for the AstraZeneca young scientist Frank Rose award and the translational research award (each worth £1,000).
- The UK's Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and University of Manchester's Dalton Nuclear Institute have signed an agreement to fund a new £20 million nuclear research facility.
