New analytical instruments launched

Hepeng Jia/Beijing, China

A range of new analytical instruments will be launched at Analytica China 2008, which will take place on 23-25 September in Shanghai.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, US, will use the exhibition to launch its TSQ Vantage LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry) in China. Thermo Fisher claims that the instrument delivers up to 10 times more sensitivity than other triple quadrupole instruments. 'This has made the device more reproducible and precise in quantitatively analysing small molecules and biomolecules, enabling scientists to detect compounds at extremely low concentrations,' says Mao Junlin, sales director of Thermo Fisher China.

According to Mao, the company will also exhibit Fisher lab solutions, which offers help with lab design, covering features such as lab water discharge, ventilation, and lab control software. Fisher, part of Thermo Fisher, will also use the exhibition to launch the Chinese version of its lab product catalogue.

During the event, Thermo Fisher will also open a large demonstration lab very close to the exhibition hall and provide shuttle transport for visitors.

PerkinElmer, US, will also use the exhibition to display products and solutions, including its Ecoanalytical system. This attempts to combine monitoring and analysing efforts in the fields of food, water, biofuels, and sustainable energies. 'In China, there are huge demands on analysis into these areas and much progress has already been made, but more integration efforts are needed,' says Xue Ping, a sales manager of PerkinElmer.

PerkinElmer's Optima 7000 series of inductively coupled plasma-optical emissions spectrometers (ICP-OES), first introduced in April, will have their China debut at the exhibition, says Xue.

Designed for high-quality inorganic analysis, the Optima 7000 is aimed at environmental, geochemical, product testing and biofuels fields. With a universal data acquisition mode, the devices can record all of the spectral data for each sample, says PerkinElmer.

Agilent, US, will display its newest 7000A triple quadrupole GC-MS-MS (gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer). According to Agilent, this instrument delivers femtogram-level sensitivity. The system can detect 100 fg of samples on a column with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 100:1.
