ChemCareers 2011

From 31 October to 4 November, the RSC will be holding its annual online careers fair, ChemCareers. Hosted on MyRSC, ChemCareers is a global, week long, online event that highlights the breadth of career opportunities available to chemical scientists in academia, the chemical industry and other sectors.

Building on the success of ChemCareers 2010, this year the fair will include a greater focus on international companies in line with the International Year of Chemistry. 

What is on offer 

ChemCareers 2011 is a careers fair with a difference. Featuring employees from over 40 top firms, interactive media, live chats and webinars, ChemCareers offers you the opportunity to: 

  • Discover the huge range of career opportunities available for chemists
  • Learn how to market yourself to employers in job applications and interviews
  • Seek expert advice on career planning and making your next career move 
  • Investigate further study options
  • Network globally with employers and other chemical scientists

Is it for you? 

ChemCareers is aimed at those studying or working in the chemical sciences, at any stage of their career. The event is ideal for: 

  • students looking for their first job
  • graduates and postgraduates exploring their career options
  • mid-career RSC members looking for a change of direction
  • those who may have been made redundant

A helping hand  

A wide variety of topics will be covered in the different sessions, which will include: 

  • Tools for job hunting. Including CV writing, completing application forms, preparing for interviews, professional development (CChem information) and networking
  • Industrial careers. Discover some of the jobs available within the chemical industry, from research and development through to sales and marketing 
  • Alternative career options. Learn about the diverse range of career opportunities for chemical scientists including teaching, publishing and working in the public sector 

Have a chat  

Live chat will offer delegates the opportunity to have a chat with experts in the industry. These will include: 

  • Employers from UK companies
  • Employers from international companies (China, US and India)
  • Experts in areas such as teaching, CChem acreditation and selecting university courses
  • Mock interviews/careers advice with the RSC careers team. (1:1 careers advice will only be open to members of the RSC)

Exploring your options  

A library of video career profiles will be available to delegates illustrating the wide variety of jobs in the chemical sciences. These career profiles will consist of 28 videos from different companies, sectors and countries including - new for this year - the career paths for an ecologist, an academic, a researcher and a member of the British Olympic Committee.
