New for 2011/2012
The new 132 page 2011/12 catalogue from Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau details the complete range of innovative temperature control solutions. With a temperature range from -120 to +425 °C, Huber systems are suitable for a range of applications in research, laboratory and production.

The catalogue gives details of the Unistat range of highly responsive temperature control systems, chillers and thermostats as well as information on numerous innovations, including: the improved MPC low cost thermostats, the new heat transfer stations; an economic alternative to standard chillers and the Unistat Hybrid System for temperature control of very large production reactors.

UV-Vis spectrum analysis
Palintest has launched the 9100 UV-Vis spectrophotometer, capable of spectral analysis across the 190-1100nm wavelength range. Additionally, the device can measure reaction kinetics and includes a photometric mode for simple sample assays.
Stirrer-hotplate
Torrey Pines is offering a new programmable stirrer-hotplate that can go from 100 to 1500 rpm controlled to within 10 rpm by an optical coupler. The EchoTherm HS65 can store up to 10 stirring programmes of up to 10 steps each, for which a step comprises a temperature, a temperature ramp rate, a stir speed and a duration. The plate surface can be heated from ambient temperature to 400°C controlled to within 1°C.
Fridge free storage kit
Thermo Fisher Scientific has brought to market Bioservative, a sample preservation matrix that does not require refrigeration. The company says, the technology keeps the cell samples in a viable state for up to seven days and holds off the breakdown of RNA, DNA and peptides for up to 26 days. The matrix also stabilises the sample pH, preventing cell death and pH hydrolysis of biological molecules. Preservation of samples in this way protects against damage caused by freezing and thawing, enabling convenient manipulation of batch materials in long term storage.
Pipettes
Vitlab has brought to market a range of piston operated single channel pipettes, featuring: 'rugged' construction, ease of handling, complete 'autoclavability', high precision and easy calibration. The pipette is available in seven different volume sizes, from 10
l to 10ml. Plus, the tips are colour coded to help with choosing the right one. What more could you want from pipette?
Reaction vessel
Asynt has launched the ReactoMate Compact, a small laboratory reaction system for jacketed reactors of 50-5000ml in volume. The unit is made of stainless steel and operates temperature range from -60ºC to 190ºC. The company says it delivers precise control of reaction variables to mimic conditions in much larger plant vessels.
Autoclaves
LTE Scientific has introduced six more autoclaves in its Touchclave-Lab range. These larger units have a capacity of 360 or 450 litres and incorporate a touch screen control system for entering and displaying commands and data. Up to 5000 cycles can stored on the internal flash card, and eight user programmable cycles can be stored in the memory.
Centrifuge
Beckman Coulter has launched the Allegra X-30, a laboratory centrifuge. It works with 13 rotors, including two new rotors: the SX4400, a 1.6 litre 'swinging bucket' rotor, and the S6096, a microplate rotor that accommodates 3x2 micro plates or 2x1 deep well plates. In addition, the refrigeration version can be cooled from ambient temperature to -4ºC in less than 10mins.
Colour analysis
Analytik has introduced the VideometerLab 2, a 'multispectral imaging and automated visual measurement system' for determining surface colour, texture and chemical composition. The company says that it delivers accurate and objective measurement of visual quality in less than 10s, combining up to 20 different wavelengths of 360-1050 nm into a single image. The device is suitable for analysing a wide range of samples including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, microbes and surfaces on textiles, paper, wood, metal and ceramics.
PSS AFM
Bruker has brought to market a new atomic force microscope (AFM) that it says it designed specifically for patterned sapphire substrate (PSS) metrology in high brightness light-emitting diode manufacturing. The Diamond Edge PSS AFM performs automated measurement, data collection, data analysis and report generation on 2-6 inch wafers.
Sample extraction
Also from Thermo is the HyperSep solid supported liquid-liquid extraction (SLE) chromatographic sample preparation kit for getting useable chromatography samples from complex biological matrices. The company says that SLE technology gives greater reproducibility and reliability than liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). And, unlike protein precipitation techniques, it removes contaminants such as phospholipids.
Range of pH sensors
Anachem, a subsidiary of Mettler Toledo, has brought to market a range of pH sensors designed specifically to work with very small samples in for example vials or well plates. Each of the five tackles a different problem. The Viscous Pro for example is for use with high viscosity samples, while the Flex-Micro flexes before breaking to avoid damaging micro electrodes.
