The chemsoc timeline is a linear based exploration of key events in the history of science with a particular emphasis on chemistry.

Timeline dates are accessed through a horizontally and vertically scrolling window and individual items are illustrated and linked to further information on each subject. The timeline will grow to encompass a wide range of subjects with relevance to general and scientific knowledge.

Please note that as the main timeline window contains links to all dates it may take one or two minutes to load (depending on connection speed) however once loaded it can be bookmarked for future reference.

We would like to invite you to suggest other items for inclusion in the chemsoc timeline. All genuine suggestions will be considered and those accepted will be credited to the individual responsible! The events do not have to be chemistry related - just notable discoveries or incidences that are of interest to scientists and the general public.

Please Email timeline@chemsoc.org with your suggestion, where possible please include the date the event/discovery took place and some basic details: where it took place, who was involved and maybe some other sources of information.

You can even make predictions for inventions or discoveries that you think will be made in years to come. For example if you think teleportation will be possible in 2020, why not suggest it to us! Predictions based on current research would be particularly welcome, so if you are a research scientist and think your work will lead to an exciting new discovery or treatment please Email us with the details of your prediction.

chemsoc's timeline artist Murray Robertson will create an an appropriate image to represent each successful entry.
