Course description

The Applied Deconvolution (AMDIS) course is a two-day advanced training course that teaches how to operate NIST's Automated Mass Spectral Deconvolution and Identification System (AMDIS) software for the processing of complex GC-MS data that has been previously acquired. The course mixes 50% presentations with 50% practical exercises on the software in order to get a good grasp of it's capabilities in performing deconvolution.

The course details the theory of mass spectral deconvolution to unravel a mixed mass spectrum found in complex samples which has limited chromatographic resolution and discusses the use of analytical resolution for the confirmation or identification of co-eluting peaks. The course delves into the installation and provides an overview of the AMDIS software.

The course reviews various types of deconvolution analysis and data processing that is available discussing in detail the Simple, Retention Index, Retention Time, Calibration Data, Performance Check and Internal Standard modes. It reviews the types and use of the AMDIS libraries including their creation and building upon.

At the end of the 2 days, the delegates will have gained the knowledge and experience of operating the AMDIS software to undertake analytical resolution to perform deconvolution and obtained cleaned-up mass spectra and to undertake data extraction, manipulation & reporting.


Requires fundamental knowledge of GC-MS and some background in understanding mass spectra.
