Course description

This GC-MS training course was designed after a needs-based survey carried out among researchers in Africa. The course covers the theory of gas chromatography and mass spectromtery and interpretation of the spectra. Practical sessions cover basic maintenance of the instrument including changing the column, injector liner and septa and replacing the ion source. Participants are also exposed to sample cleanup and pre-concentration techniques involving solid phase cartridges and have the opportunity to analyse samples and interpret the spectra obtained.

Course tutors have wide experience and are practicing scientists in GC-MS, in Africa and Europe. At present the training is supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry, through the Pan-Africa Chemistry Network for the transport, accomodation and all meals during the training period.

This training programme is supported by GSK.
We welcome applications to these courses from across Africa, though please note these are over susbribed and so a Selection Committee will chose the delegates based on their application. Available courses are listed here:

Minimum Msc in Chemistry. Delegates should be studying/working in a research laboratory with opportunity to use the technique.
