The RSC Bill Bryson Prize for science communication proved very popular with both primary and secondary school students last year.  The RSC received over 400 high quality entries covering a wide range of styles, formats and subjects.

Commenting on the 2006 competition, Bill Bryson said: "We were particularly impressed by the enthusiasm and interest in science in our schools throughout the UK"

The winning entries were divided into three main categories:

  • Overall Winner - Ollie Craig from the Priory School, Shrewsbury
  • Secondary schools winner - Jonathan Andrews, Janak Bechar, Justin Bell, Phillip Cai, Dominic England, Edward Johnson, Edmund Lam, Dhavel Panchal and Nikil Vaghela from Bedford School, Bedford
  • Primary Schools winner - Katie Shemtob, Amalia Gherson and Lauren Shemtob from Naima Jewish Preparatory school, London.

The winners of each of the three main categories received prizes of £500 for their schools plus  £100 for themselves.

Bill Bryson and former RSC President Simon Campbell presented the winners with their prizes and certificates at an awards ceremony hosted by the RSC in London.

Following the ceremony, all guests were invited to attend the Burlington House courtyard party, giving the victorious pupils the chance to brush shoulders with Sir David Attenborough and the (then) Science Minister, Lord Sainsbury.
